W jednej z anglojęzycznych monografii poświęconej Ju 88 "Junkers Ju 88 Kampfgeschwader on the Russian Front Johna Weala" jest krótki wpis dotyczący orneckiego epizodu.
"One unit that particularly distinguished itself during these long-range missions was II./KG 77. Commanded by Hauptmann Dietrich Peltz – who was already sport- ing the Knight’s Cross in recognition of operations flown over Great Britain, and who would subsequently rise to high office as the General der Kampfflieger – this Gruppe undertook a number of 1000-mile and more round trips from their base at Wormditt, in East Prussia, to attack the main Leningrad-Moscow railway line. Its crews specifically targeted stations and marshalling yards along this important stretch, as well as canals and locks in the same area. It is claimed that their pin- point accuracy often resulted in such installations being out of action for days, if not weeks on end, and that they alone were responsible for significant disruptions to rail and barge traffic between the Soviet Union’s two major cities"
Wynika że Ju 88 startujące z orneckiego lotniska latały bombardować linie kolejową Leningrad - Moskwa. Jednostka II./KG 77 wyróżniała się skutecznością i precyzją bombardowań.
